For "Elias Sifuentes" I always have a Mexican restaurant owner come visit during the middle of the week. Students first make a list of all the things Elias does in his restaurant. When the visitor comes, they compare what he or she does with what Elias does by putting checkmarks. If both do the same, there are two checkmarks. If visitor hasn't covered something on the list, students will ask him/her. Afterwards, they make a Venn Diagram to compare/contrast each person. Students also enjoy the chips and salsa that the visitor brings! If convenient, Reading class may go have lunch at his Mexican restaurant for some hands-on experience.
